Corbett's Glen Nature Park,
Town of Brighton, New York – EDR designers and planners
married two adjacent open-space parcels for land purchases
totaling 51 acres. The project preserves a mosaic of
ecological systems and establishes a unique open space oasis
in a developed area. The site improvements applied EDR's
resource-based philosophy by emphasizing ecological
conservation, passive recreation, and environmental
education. Trailheads, parking areas, and 2.5 miles of
trails were constructed that provide a range of
accessibility and pedestrian links from the local
neighborhoods. Unique construction features include a
low-profile wetland boardwalk and a cantilevered creek
overlook deck. Both structures utilize steel helical pier
foundations to provide long-term stability and minimize site
impact. Decking is a low-maintenance composite with a high
content of recycled material. To control costs and establish
a naturalized visual character, local limestone slabs are
utilized for seating areas. Woody materials from clearing
and grubbing were chipped on-site and recycled as trail
surfacing. Parking areas utilize reinforced turf where
appropriate to minimize impervious surface.
